Hi! I’m RJ Daniels and I’m a 4th year Health Promotion major at the University of Georgia. I have minors in Spanish, Global Health, and Health Policy & Management. From my time here at UGA my interests in Public Health have grown and expanded. My main area of interest has always been sex education and sexual health, and from learning more about public health in my health promotion I’ve developed a strong appeal to HIV prevention and treatment. Many of my assignments, like literature reviews, program planning, and general research are based around HIV prevention methods like PrEP and how they are impacted by social factors among racial/ethnic MSM.
I’ve been very lucky to learn from my undergraduate professors during my time here at UGA, as well as participate in activities outside of the classroom that allows me to build my public health skills. One particular activity occurred during my service-learning health promotion class, where I tutored a 2nd grader for a whole academic year. It was a beneficial and rewarding experience where I was able to build communication and teaching skills, as well as implement my Spanish minor in a real world situation. I’m very proud of that experience, as well as others I’ve done over the years and I hope to continue to always learn and grow in my career and personal life.
